Interning at Brandish: Teagan’s Experience

By Brandish Agency

Teagan Nzisabira Muco, a grade 12 high school student, joined the Brandish communications team for a month-long internship in the winter of 2022 as a part of his school program. As his internship wrapped up, Teagan jotted down some thoughts and insights about his time with the Brandish team.

There are times when you question why you’re doing something, and you can’t seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve always felt like I had the potential to dig my way out and to see what’s on the other side, but it’s hard when you’re comfortable. For the past year that I’ve spent away from my home school learning business, I didn’t know if it was going to be worth it or not.

I found out about Brandish because of my best friend. As a kid he often talked about how his uncle was doing some really cool stuff as the founder & managing partner of a strategic brand agency. Six years later I’m in high school and I’m looking for an internship for the end of my Applied Business Management program at Louis Riel Art & Technology Centre. I ended up sending my email to the Brandish communications team and got myself an internship.

Whenever I’m doing anything new or foreign, I try to prepare myself with the mindset of not setting expectations, but if I had any, they were definitely exceeded. In my first week, I was given presentations on the culture, brand platform, agency structure, and fundamentals. After reading all the case studies and presentations, I had a deep understanding of what principles the agency lived by. Writing on the wall to “be nice and understanding to people” is one thing, but the execution part is what really matters. At Brandish, the team’s amount of respect and trust for each other was something I’d never seen before. It truly changed my perspective of what a 9 to 5 office job could look like.

During my time at Brandish, I participated in many meetings, created my own research document on TikTok content, interviewed 17 members of the agency, and created my very own LinkedIn page with the help of Communications Manager Cleo Curtis. Before arriving at Brandish, I felt lost in what I wanted to do in the future, but now I see that there’s more than one light at the end of the tunnel. I’m fortunate to have landed an internship here and wish nothing but the best for Brandish.
